The Importance of Slowing Down

August 27, 2019

Most of us have busy lives. Everyone is always on the go and rushing around trying to work and have a social life, whilst struggling to make time to just relax. How are you? Do the phrases “busy”, “tired” and “stressed” come to mind? In reality, we are all juggling different things in life, with also a huge attachment to our smartphones that keeps our minds racing due to endless emails, news alerts and the pressure of social media.

We rush and cram things together so we can get more done with our days. We even plan short HIIT workouts so we can squeeze some exercise in. We’re so focused on rushing through every part of our day that we miss out on parts.

Rushing around doesn’t help you do anything better. If anything, it only increases your chances of feeling stressed and negatively affecting people around you. When you stop rushing and slow down, you will enjoy life more. Everything will be more interesting; you’ll worry less and you will care for others more.

Slowing down is crucial for overall health. The mind and body always need time to recharge and recover. Many things can contribute to feeling stressed, depressed or anxious. Lots of things can have a huge impact on our overall health, but studies have shown that spending time in nature can significantly reduce stress, and also helps to fight depression and anxiety.

Spend Some Quality Time With Those You Love

Whether you want to take some time out for yourself, go away for the weekend with your other half or friends, or have a family holiday, it is important to take time out of your busy schedule to spend quality time with the people you love.

Gain Some Perspective

Leaving certain situations just for a few days, that are causing you to feel stressed, allows you to step back and evaluate your decisions and lifestyle, and to fain perspective on your life as a whole to consider what really matters the most.

Relax

Relaxing gives your mind and body time to recover from the stresses of day to day life. Find something that you enjoy and make a conscious effort to do that relaxing thing every day. Even taking 15 minutes out of your day to have some downtime can help you to manage stress better.

Escape With Nature

Most of us don’t realise how important it is for all of us to spend time in nature. We tend to spend more time outside in the summer, but then hide by the fire in the winter. This causes the human body to be deprived of important natural benefits for several months a year. Also, with the current addiction individuals have with technology, this means less people are spending time outdoors.

Spending time in nature is simply to take a break from everyday life. Being outdoors slows us down and helps us to live in the present moment. Time spent outdoors tends to open us up to everything. By getting yourself away from your busy life and never-ending thoughts, time in nature also allows us to connect better with other people.
