Be Kind

February 17, 2020

“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.

Be kind, always.”

Your mental health influences how you think, feel and behave in daily life. Mental health is everyone’s business. We all have times when we feel down or stressed or frightened. Most of the time these feelings pass, but sometimes they can develop into a more serious problem and that could happen to any of us.

Your mental health doesn’t always stay the same. It can change as circumstances change and as you move through life. Everyone is different, you might find it easy to bounce back from a challenge you’ve faced, whereas somebody else could find it difficult for a long time.

There is still a huge stigma against mental health. We need to try out best to fight this, and to be more open and loving to one another. Each illness has its own signs and symptoms. No experience with mental illness will be the same.

No matter how much time you devote to improving your mental and emotional health, you will still need the company of others to feel your best. Speak up. Talk to someone. A good listener will listen to the feelings behind your words, and won’t judge or criticize you. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness, it is a strength. Asking for help shows a huge amount of courage. Recognizing we need help shows a high level of self-awareness, and this puts the power back in our hands rather than in the hands of your mental illness.

Remember…

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
